Jock Oehlers Matchplay Championship March 2020

Mike Spencer is the John Oehlers Shield matchplay champion, defeating Graham Guy 6 and 5 in the final, played on the Old Course on 16 March 2020.  The photo shows the two finalists (Mike on the left, Graham on the right, with club president Richard Russell) on the first tee of the Old Course at Wembley. Preliminary rounds commenced on 17 February with 29 members competing for the Shield.  Mike’s path to get to the final involved defeating David Connor, Alan Smith, Garth Irvine and Ian Webb.  Graham had a bye in round one so his path was shorter but involved beating David Hayes, Brian Hills and Gerry Gillett.  Congratulations to the finalists and particularly to our new champion, Mike Spencer.  See Ladder.
