2018-9 Trophy Winners

Fred Sorenson Shield
The Fred Sorenson Shield competition for 2018-9 was played on the Tuart Course on 23 November 2018 in sunny, warm conditions.  The winning team was Barry Boyd, Bob Hopkins and Mike Spencer, with a gross of 71, net 55.2.  Runners up were Gerry Gillett, Doug McCauley and Ian Webb (gross 69, net 55.8).  The team with the lowest gross was Ron Bensky, Brian Hills, John Stone and Chris Wynne with 68, net 57.

Gerry Gillett Perpetual Trophy

The Gerry Gillett 4-Club Perpetual Trophy  was played on the Tuart Course on 7 December 2018.  In this stableford competition, members are permitted to take on the course only 3 clubs plus their putter.  The winner was John Stone with 43 stableford points from Graham Guy with 42 points.  John’s gross score was 82, whilst Graham’s was 84 and John had the best nine score with 23 points. 

Jock Oehlers Match Play Competition

The final of the club match-play championship for the Jock Oehlers was played on 15 March 2019 on the Tuart Course between Alan Smith and Rick Lazar.  Alan Smith won 3 up with 2 holes to play.  The final ladder for the championship is attached.

Cecil McPhee Trophy

The Cecil McPhee Trophy (the Cesspot) was played for on 2 August 2019 and won by Richard Russell with 38 points, beating Rick Lazar with 35 points.  Richard’s gross of 82 was the best gross for the day.  For this trophy, points are awarded off scratch and handicaps are added to the point score.

Pairs Championship

The club Pairs Championship was played on Friday 13 September (Tuart Course) and Monday 16 September 2019 (Old Course) and was won by John Stone and president Doug McCauley. The championship is played as a stableford best-ball competition over 36 holes with teams drawn from higher and lower handicapped entrants. John Stone had a splendid round on Friday collecting a birdie and 10 pars, scoring a gross 78, net 61, giving him 45 points with a best nine of 24 pts. Doug contributed another 6 points with a birdie on the Tuart 18th to give the team 51 points. Doug was the contributor on Monday scoring 37 points on the Old Course and coming second in the individual placings, whilst John, with a quieter day, contributed another 4 points to give the team 41 points and an aggregate of 92 over the two days, 6 points ahead of the second-placed team of Ron Bensky and Rick Lazar. Rick on 24 handicap birdied the first and second holes to get Ron quite excited at the prospect of overhauling John’s Friday score, but it was not to be.

The club championship was contested on two days – Friday 18 October (played on the Old Course) and Monday 21 October 2019 (Tuart Course).  Tom McClain had an exceptional 77 on the Tuart Course on Monday to clinch the Keith Minkey club open title from Alan Smith, Mr Consistency, who scored rounds of 83 on Friday on the Old Course and 86 on Monday on the Tuart.  Gerry Gillett was the overnight handicap leader with a gross 87 (beating his age by 6 shots) net 65 on Friday, but was pipped at the post by Alan Smith’s net 67 on Friday followed by 71 on Monday.  Rick Lazar was the runaway winner of the B Grade Champion Trophy with a gross 90 on Friday followed by 96 on Monday.
