Tony Fisk scores an eagle
Congratulations to Tony Fisk on his eagle on Tuart 15th – his long drive was past the 150m mark and his second shot was pin-high on the western side of the green, about 5m out – good putting saw the eagle scored.

Committee’s recommendation on slow play
When a member of group is raking a bunker, his playing partners move on to play their shots or to putt out.

Match-play Final and results 26 April 2022

Jock Oehlers Match Play Competition Final Result
18 members entered the competition for the Jock Oehlers matchplay championship this year with the draw done on 21 February, the qualifying matches played in the week ending 4 March, the round of 16 played in the following week, quarter finals in week ending 25 March and the semi-finals between Tom Guthrie and John Stone (2 up), and Tony Fisk and Mike Spencer (3 & 1) played on 28 March.  The final was delayed until 26 April by mutual agreement.  After a close fought tussle, with the lead changing several times, the players were even as they approached the 18th.  John Stone hit the ball with the toe of his 3-wood high into the trees to the right of the tee whereas Mike Spencer played his shot towards the gap but into the trees on the right.  John had to play out onto the fairway in front of the big tree and promptly hit his third shot into the trees.  Mike’s second shot put him across the fairway with a good opportunity to play onto the green – he failed to do this and needed a fourth shot to get there. Meanwhile John’s fourth got out onto the fairway and his fifth landed beside the green down the slope on the right needing more than the two shots Mike took to hole the ball and conceding the match by a putt. The final was played in good spirit and with a lot of good shots as well as quite a lot of not-sos reflecting the pressure of competing for the match-play trophy and a voucher worth $100 from Endeavour Hotels as a prize, these going to Mike Spencer.

The photo shows Barry Boyd, deputising for President Richard Russell, congratulating the winner, Mike Spencer (centre) with runner-up John Stone on left.

Committee’s recommendation on slow play
If not playing in your partner’s potential line of flight, move up to your ball to determine your shot and select your club while he prepares to play.  Play out of turn when ready even if you are closer to the pin.

Conditions     Sunny               Players              18 members

Committee’s recommendation on slow play
Call the following group through when looking for a lost ball. (To limit time looking for lost balls, club rules provide for a ball drop at location of loss; also consider hitting a provisional when a ball is potentially lost).

Results:
Congratulations to both Garth Irvine and John Allen for their fine rounds resulting in a one-over-par net of 71.  Garth won on count back whilst Richard Dongray came in third.  The photo shows Garth holding the Captain’s Trophy Shield with Captain Mike to his right, flanked by John Allen and Richard Dongray.

Results 11 April – Charity Day match vs Westside

Course             Old Course      Charity Day Competition vs Westside GC – stableford
Conditions       Sunny               Players            18 members & 2 guests

Committee’s recommendation on slow play
Normally, we expect players to complete a shot within 30 seconds of their ball becoming available to play – minimise time by thinking about club selection and distance to hole as you approach your ball and leave buggy adjacent to it and not behind it.  Thirty seconds is generally ample time for lining up the shot, judging or measuring the distance, and having a single practice swing, and irrespective of whether it is a putt, a tee shot, or a shot from the fairway or rough.

Charity Match Results
West Coast average score 29.889 pts per member, Westside 29.389 – West Coast retains the shield by 0.5 of a stableford point. (PS Where is the Shield???!!!)
Overall winner was David Holley (Westside) with 36 points, second on count-back – David Cox (Westside) from Richard Russell (WCGC) 35 points.
