WCGC Policy on Slow play

NOTICE TO MEMBERS ON SLOW PLAY

West Coast Golf Club rounds normally take 4 ¼ to 4 ½ hours to complete. Your committee believe this to be acceptable taking into account we play on a public golf course and we are “mature aged”.

On occasion rounds have extended to close to 5 hours and that is not acceptable. It is annoying to following groups, inconvenient to members with following time commitments and has potential to give West Coast Golf Club an unwanted reputation for slow play.

Members are requested to adopt the following West Coast Golf Club recommendations aimed at avoiding slow play.

  1. Keep up with the group in front.
  2. Tee off before marking the card with the score on the previous hole.
  3. Play ready golf on the tee – do not wait for player with the honour – consider short hitters playing first to enable them to move promptly off the tee for second shots.
  4. Where possible watch when playing partners are hitting to see the flight of their ball.
  5. Players with a ball a similar distance down the fairway to a lost ball to play their shot before joining the search for the lost ball.
  6. Call the following group through when looking for a lost ball. (To limit time looking for lost balls, club rules provide for a ball drop at point of entry; also consider hitting a provisional when a ball is potentially lost)
  7. When hitting on the fairway leave buggy adjacent to ball not 10 meters back.
  8. If not in playing partner’s potential lines of flight move up to your ball to determine your shot and select your club while he prepares to play.
  9. When approaching green, leave buggy to side or back nearest next tee.
  10. When a member of group is raking a bunker his playing partners move on to play their shots or to putt out.
  11. When on green player with ball closest to hole takes the flag.
  12. Do not linger over a missed putt; putting out is desirable but not essential and If not putting out promptly let playing partners know your intention.
  13. If group is not keeping up with group in front the first to putt out to move to next tee and hit-off while partners putt out.
  14. Lowest handicapper has responsibility to keep the group moving.
